First and foremost, what a year! Thank you to each and every one of you who gave your time, gifts, energy and finances to help Centenary UMC accomplish all it did this year! Overall, from our individual and corporate relationships with and within which we love God to the ministry by which we work together to love others outside our walls to the mission we have been carrying out to make disciples of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…we have grown! At the time I am writing this note, since we implemented the new worship schedule the second week of September our weekly worship attendance has gone up 39%! Praise be to God, Amen!
Now the decision just about every church in this world makes this time of year as we look towards last year in the rear view mirror, is whether to continue to move boldly forward by the grace of God, or take a break and put everything on cruise control….the thing with churches is, there is no such thing as cruise control. Churches are either growing or they are dying…there is no in between. They are either reaching people with the grace, love and hope of Jesus Christ, or they are not and therefore are missing opportunities to do so and grow as a church.
I ask and challenge you all to resist the temptation to rest on the laurels of 2015! I ask and challenge us all to pray to God for what His vision is for Centenary United Methodist Church in 2016 and use the last year as a source of spiritual inspiration to continue to push on the proverbial gas pedal and let Jesus take the wheel.
It might sound cliché, and I know there are many challenges ahead of us, but I honestly believe that by the grace of God, our faith in Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit, the best is yet to come for Centenary United Methodist Church in 2016….all we have to do is be inspired to drive.
Praise be to God, Amen!
