Giving
Why do we give?
Everything belongs to God. We are stewards of it--meaning that we take care of it. When we give money to the church we are simply giving back to God a part of what God has given us, to provide a place to worship God, to teach children and adults how to be disciples of Jesus Christ, and--Yes! We "spread the wealth around!" We feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, clothe the naked, and heal the sick because Jesus told us that whenever we do these things, we are doing them for him!
You can give a general amount that we will use to help areas of the church in need, whether it is paying for utilities, Sunday School supplies or helping with Apportionments.
Our Outreach Committee chooses where the monthly mission collection goes...some of our past collections have gone to the Warm Hearts Fund here at CUMC, Shullsburg Food Pantry, Shullsburg PTA Anonymous Closet, Salvation Army, and Family Advocates. Each month our newsletter will contain details on that month's collection. If it isn't an area you are feeling called to give to, you can write something different on your envelope/check.
Another option we have is automatic withdrawal from your bank account. You specify the day of the month and the amount of your donation, and you can change or stop it whenever you decide. If you would like to take advantage of this "set-it-and-forget-it" way to give to the church, fill out this authorization form or get one from the office.

Special Offering Sundays
United Methodists are connectional. We put into practice that if we want to give money beyond our local church and local community needs, the first place to look is our connectional system.
Connectional giving – all of us giving together – is fuel for ministry. It enables us to share the concerns of many people. This idea is established on the desire to meet the needs of ALL God’s people. It is grounded in our need to give in order to be spiritually healthy, complete children of God.
The United Methodist Church's special giving structure ensures your generosity blesses as many people as possible in sustainable, strategic ways. When you give towards one of the six Special Sunday’s, you enable vital ministries that change the world, one life at a time. As United Methodist we also support critical ministries and missionaries through The Advance – an accountable voluntary giving platform that support sthe worldwide mission of the UMC. No administrative costs are deducted and 100% of your gift goes directly to the need.
Our individual gifts of support make us a better church for the sake of God’s world.
